Light and shadow
Establish the light direction and paint the main shadow shapes. Distinguish form shadows, where a surface turns away from the light, from cast shadows, where an object blocks the light. Keep shading within the regions defined during masking.
Edges and materials
Refine shadow transitions, reflected light, and highlights. Use hard or soft edges according to the form, lighting, and material. Adjust the color of the line art or paint over lines where shading replaces them.
Final adjustments
Check values, color balance, and detail at both reduced scale and actual size. Correct edges and unwanted marks. Preserve the layered document before exporting an image.
