Rough sketch

Use a pencil brush to establish the pose, proportions, perspective, and composition. Draw the main forms before smaller details.

Color rough

Block in the background and subject on a separate layer. The color rough establishes the palette, value relationships, and lighting before line art and detailed painting. A broad brush, lasso selection, and fill can be used to place the color shapes.

Corrections

Use selections and transforms to adjust proportions and placement. Mirror the canvas view to check the drawing. Retain the sketch and color rough on separate layers as references for the following stages.
