Saving and exporting
Keep a working document for editing and export an image for sharing. The document needs to retain layers and masks so later corrections remain possible; the exported image records the visible result. Saving these separately avoids losing the structure used in the tutorial.
These draft guides describe the intended workflow and include features that are still in development.
What you'll learn
- Save a document that preserves the layer and mask setup.
- Export the visible illustration without merging the working layers.
- Check transferred files in the destination app or device before removing the original.
Document saving and export controls are still in development. The supported formats and their layer compatibility will be listed here when they are available. The following sections describe the planned workflow.
Keep the working document editable
Save your working copy in a document format that preserves Capy Canvas’s layers and masks. In the tutorial, that separation lets you change a base color or a shading layer without repainting the rest of the illustration. A flattened image cannot retain those editing relationships.
Before transferring work between apps, check whether the destination supports the features you used. Layers alone do not guarantee that clipping, masks, and blending will reproduce identically. Keep the original document until you have opened and checked the transferred copy.
Export a copy for sharing
Export an image when you need to post the illustration or place it in another document. Exporting combines the visible result without requiring you to merge the working layers. Hide Sketch and Color rough, and check the background’s visibility before exporting.
Choose a format that supports transparency when you need a transparent background. Open the exported file to check its appearance and dimensions; the editor’s zoom level is not the size of the exported image.
Move files between devices
In the web version, pay attention to where the browser saves the file. Installing the web app for offline use does not make your documents available on another device. Transfer the saved document itself and open it on the destination before removing the original copy.
Return to Rendering if the export reveals an edge that needs correction. Keeping the base masks and shading layers separate makes that revision possible without rebuilding the finished paint.
